Expert Support at
Every Stage

Academic mentorship at Office Hours is not tutoring in the conventional sense. It is the kind of sustained, attentive intellectual support that changes not just a student's grades, but their relationship with learning itself — their confidence, their curiosity, and their sense of themselves as capable thinkers.

Subject Mentorship

All Subjects. All Levels. Genuine Depth.

Office Hours offers academic mentorship across all disciplines and grade levels — from middle school through undergraduate coursework. Whether a student is building foundational skills, working through a particularly challenging unit, or pushing toward genuine mastery in a subject they love, our mentors bring both academic expertise and authentic intellectual engagement to every session.

We place particular emphasis on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate coursework — not simply to help students pass exams, but to help them engage with the material at the depth it deserves. A student who truly understands AP Biology or IB History thinks and writes differently than one who has merely prepared for a test. That difference is legible to admissions readers.

Personal Statement Writing

Your Story, Precisely Told

The personal statement is one of the most consequential pieces of writing a student will produce — and one of the most misunderstood. It is not a summary of achievements or a résumé in paragraph form. It is the one place in an application where a student's voice, perspective, and inner life can be made visible to a committee that has read thousands of essays and knows immediately when something is authentic.

At Office Hours, personal statement work is treated as a writing mentorship. We help students identify what only they can say, find the right form to say it, and revise with the precision serious writing demands. The substance comes from the student. Our job is to help them trust it — and articulate it clearly.

Personal Statement Support Includes

Topic discovery & ideation sessions
Voice & narrative development
Multiple rounds of draft development
Line-level revision & editorial feedback
Common App essay (650 words)

High School Applications

Helping Students Tell the Story That's Theirs to Tell

Admission to competitive independent high schools in the Bay Area requires more than strong grades. Schools throughout Marin, Berkeley, San Francisco, and the peninsula receive far more applications than they can accept — and they are looking for students who can articulate who they are, what they care about, and why a particular school is the right environment for them to grow.

Office Hours helps middle school students and their families navigate this process with clarity and confidence. We work on written applications, interview preparation, and the careful task of helping a young student present themselves authentically — not as a curated performance, but as a genuine person with real interests and intellectual curiosity. Substance precedes presentation. Always.
